Good news coming out of Washington today! President Obama has officially designated Berryessa Snow Mountain as one of America’s newest national monuments!
This decision protects 330,780 acres of public land. Land that just happens to be right in our backyard – in the heart of Northern California’s Inner Coast Range! The area has an incredible concentration of biodiversity along with many many miles of hiking trails.
This new designation will bring an influx of visitors and revenue which will hopefully lead to improved management of the area. In the next few months, the Forest Service and BLM will begin to jointly develop a management plan, outlining the actions necessary for protecting the monument’s resources.
Some of our favorite trails in Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument include:
- Pleasants Ridge – 3 miles out and back to the top of the ridge
- Fiske Peak – 8 mile out and back to the summit of Fiske Peak
- Blue Ridge – Fiske Peak Loop – 17+ mile loop along Blue Ridge
- Snow Mountain – 14 mile out and back to the summit!
